East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’ | We gonna do what they say can’t be done | We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there | I’m east bound, just watch ol’ Bandit run

Smokey and the Bandit is the first car movie I remember watching growing up. The last time I watched this movie was last year and I think it is about time to watch it again.

The Bandit car has become an iconic car since the 1977 movie was released. During filming, they had four Trans Ams to start with. Only one of them survived the film. The other three were destroyed, the bridge jumper was totaled upon impact. A lot of people believe that the car in the movie was the newly released 1977 Trans Am, but in reality they were all 1976 Special Editions. This is because filming started a year before the movie released and the new models weren’t ready yet. So, Pontiac altered the 1976 Special Editions to look like the new car that was going to come out.
